Learning Object

once again the school is at fault.. the internet/ school will not let me access this site: http://http//www.adobe.com/macromedia/events/online/ondemand/index.html i do not know why? this has stopped me from finishing my research and the internet being painfully slow is a big problem. therfore i will have to do this in my own time because the computer will not let me access it.
i will be suprised if it lets me finish my work and lets me post this article.

Virtual classroom

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnectpro/elearning/virtualclassroom.html
the macromedia/ adobe virtual class room is excellent because of the amount of information it contains.. also it brings many people togetehr who want to learn about the same subject as it were.

the virtual classroom offers more help than a teacher can give you.. there are more solutions to the answer than a simple answer. also if you do not get the question the person can ask for help and they will get it..

anyway this can be a hinder to some people because they may not have certain software that may not allow the virtual classroom to run because of the out dated software.

anwyays.. thumbs up for the virtual classroom.

NetFrog-

http://frog.edschool.virginia.edu/Frog1/menu.html

first, i'd like to say.. this website is out of date. what i mean by this is that there are no moving animations, the website is very dull and boring (no colour, all leftsided, all monotone). if i was into dissecting frogs.. i wouldnt even want to do anymore because i would have fallen asleep due to the website. however the website is very informative making dissecting a frog very easy with short simple and understandable sentences. which for someone to follow are very good. also the images are fairly blurry.. but the are elidgeable which are a great use to people because they know where to make an incision.

http://www.makingthemodernworld.org.uk

http://www.makingthemodernworld.org.uk this website is apart of the science museums online learning centre for A-level students... here i will be evaluating the site against its purpose and looking at what it teaches us about online learning...
This website is good for quick and understanable background learning.. however it does not contain great detail about the topics e.g. there is only a limited amount of text on each page also there are no text on some which means there has to be an audio player where someone may need speakers.. as i said before about not containing much about certain topics.. it does contain vital information about the history of computers and how they have
But however.. it shows largely how our world is adapting to online learning and how many people are privaliged enough to use the computers to read about their chosen topics and this informaion many people are reading can be changed and updated if new discoveries are found...
the website is great because it can be easily navigated around there are many links to different pages.. which is great because it saves everyone getting stressed about losing the page where they found their information about the history of computres.. where they need the address for their bibliography..

Online banking services

the main purposes of online are banking are that so people can manage their accounts without enldess meetings with banks managers and they can do it all online with a few easy clicks... its target audiences are for people with not much time to go to the bank and lead busy lives.

Halifax banking- advantages
http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/whybankonline.asp
Top reasons to use online banking:
1. Save time – no more rushing around to pay your bills at lunchtime
2. Bank when it suits you – your own branch open 24/7, 365 days a year
3. It's secure – all our registered customers are covered by our online guarantee.
4. It's easy to use – there's a handy demo to show you how to use our most popular services including how to pay bills. 5. Paper-free documents – You can receive all your statements and letters online, and store them securely for up to 2 years. 6. It puts you in control – see what's going on at a glance

online banking could be improved in the future by having everyone having an online account.. therfore this would minimize the amount of banks... because i dont think too many people use banks nowadays.. because of new online services! the online service would be able to plan out the expendature and income of money every month and work out and average for each month.. this would help people.. also maybe giving advice to people on how they should use their money to pay bills..

this is the future...

www.ebay.ie document

www.ebay.ie 's major purpose is to help sell second-hand products online. where people can sell their own good online without their own website. this site is for selling purposes only, apart from some people want an exhange with automobiles etc... ebay's target audience if for people who can buy items using their plastic debit cards or credit cards... the auction process works by people who have ebay accounts bid for items and they can also watch items for a few days to see how many bidders etc are viewing the item. the item can be put up for auction for as many days as the seller would like and at the end of the auction the highest bidder wins the item.. unless the seller has put a reserve price on the item then if the price does not meet the reserve the item is not sold.
this is an excellent website because people can buy items that are very expensive can be bought for less. there are many people who use this website.. also there are areas on peoples account where other users can leave feedback where people can read to see if buiying an item from this person is good or not.
this website is so successfull because so many people use it around the world that the website is worked on all of the time making it easier for people because of real time information.

My journey from home to Tottenham Court London

train from Portsmouth Harbour to London waterloo:
depart 12.30 arrive at london waterloo 14.29
then: Bus#1 Canada Water to Tottenham Court Road Station Centre Point.
estimated arrival 14.45
return: £18.50- train
return: £3.50- bus
http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/
http://www.raileurope.com/us/train_stations/waterloo.htm

Car: http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/inc/planner_places_redirect.jsp
depart 12.30
arrive 14.45

Southwest trains' website is very good with good informative information on it for example you can click on links which show the expected delays and rail works that are happening and when they are expected to stop. i found real time information on the SWT website, it was the platform and the expected delay for the train. this is important information because you may have to change train or route if you need to get there quicker.

AA route planner was good because it gave you all of the directions and allowed you to chose whether you went on the motorways or not.. also it gave you a map on where the speed cameras are so the driver is not caught out. however i couldnt find any real time information on the website such as expected delays such as, crashes, congestion etc.

therefore there is a difference between these websites because train times are very important because they are a public service and people rely on the expected times of the public services. where as the AA route planner is not public transport therefore is doesnt need real time information. although the website would be used much more it would be better because people would be able to find out recent news on the UK's roads.

the weather today from the forecats on www.bbc.co.uk/weather clear, skies, sunny and around 17°C degrees highs of 20°C

The digital divide between LEDC's and MEDC's

in 2004 a tsunami hit south east asia by suprise. however it wasn't a suprise to those in america because the had the technology that detected the earthquake 3 hours before the tsnunami struck. the american's couldnt send the warning out quick enough to warn south east asia about it because they didnt have a warning system, alert email and no network sensoring. this is because they hadnt had the correct funding to "fund" these digitally working devices because as a coutnry they still are an LEDC and they do not have the infrastructure to hold many tele-communicational devices because of the lack of funding, sciences and knowledge.
although emails are sent quickly they had recieved this befiore the tsunami struck so the authorities were able to evacuate quick enough.
there were many websites, forums, special reports on websites such as: www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2004/tsunami.disaster
http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/
www.teakdoor.com/the-multimedia-forum/30383-tsunami-2004-videos.html
these are just only a few websites that have information about the tsunami.. there were many forums set up on the 26th december with people chatting about the disaster and many people were worried about friends and relatives and wanted to know to see if they were ok..
also sky news placed a ticker on their news screen to show people that victims were alive.
and websites uploaded photos onto a website to show survivors.
this brought everyone together via the internet because everyone was searching for the same thing. modern services were used rather than old ones because the newer services held a higher standard and were better technologically.
all of these above show the digital divide between LEDC's and MEDC's...
every country should have a warning system and and alert system to alert people of their country of potential dangers so they can be less fatalities but as a whole all countries will be able to communicate between cities or towns.
because it would minimize risk and stop the horrific images of 2004 be the end of it.

school blockers part 2

my results found that i cannot access any website that has any results on them because i wasn't allowed access to them... which states that my work is being de-graded because of the school blockers.

school blockers

school blockers are really tight on what type of material is allowed to be viewed because i am doing research on "digital divide" at the moment and i am hardly getting and results because the blocker will not allow me access to the site.
therefore it is harder to gain sufficient evidence for my independant work.

boredom

i was using myspace.com also i was on facebook.com and i have noticed how much facebook has grown and a free online service where as hardly anyone is using myspace anymore because facebook is easier to use and many more people are on there.
myspace.com is trying to become like facebook because it has lost popularity compared facebook.
facebook is so much better because it is easier to set up and navigate around, myspace is too complex and needs hours of attention./

SMS and Email

The purpose and functionality between SMS and Email are different.
SMS can be put into short hand 'text' speak... Where as Emails can be very informative and formal which is different to SMS, also the amount of text characters between SMS and Email are different because SMS have allocated amounts of text characters which are very small compared to email.

As a group (me, louis and ryan) found this out.
