the digital divide

http://www.africaguide.com/afmap.htm
the link is to the map of africa, where you will see the countries that are part of the digital divide.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/special_report/1999/10/99/information_rich_information_poor/471891.stm
this link is a case-study on burkino fasso about their struggle on the digital divide.
many of the central African countries are on the wrong side of the digital divide because of their location, wealth, infrastructure and general knowledge about electical devices.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Global_Digital_Divide1.png
this link show the image of the world and the ratio of computers per 100 people in that certain country.
this shows that the less economically developed countries do not have the correct facilities to hold computers let alone even run them due to the lack of finances. the financial part of this is massive because it would cost millions of punds to develop these african countries and to maintain them etc...

world summit part 1

the aim of the world summit of 170 countries was "the first constitution for the information age".
"The documents reflect the growing awareness of leaders of the political, economic and social impact of the internet and other communication technologies". this was said by BBC news.
"The declaration of principles and action plan adopted at the summit set ambitious goals to ensure that more than half of the world has access to some form of electronic media by 2015". this is the main objective
the most negative point to come out of the world summit is that over 90% of the world therefore they will not see the change in the digital economy because they arnt on the net.
"And exactly how to bring these digital resources within the reach of the 90% of the Earth's population currently offline proved too much for the summit".
this basically says that only a very small amount of people can feel the effect of the change...

much more to come..

discussion society and the individual

alrite guys...
has anyone found any decent results for this exercise?
i couldnt find that much to write... so if anyone has anything, give me a shout :D cheers.

Monitoring internet and email use

the advantages of this content monitoring system are that it keeps a close eye on all of their employees and it can see whether they are actually working etc... with filtering their employees emails is a good way to see if they are serious about their job instead o flooking at other jobs etc. with blocking websites such as pornography etc is good because the company shows a hard working ethic which could appeal to people.
the negative impacts could be that the employees could be against their bosses looking at their emails and internet history because it is their private life and they want to keep it to themselves. they could see this as they are ebing invaded by people into their priovate life.

this system can be used by schools for various reasons because of many things availble to them on the internet such as pornography and other certain material on the internet. the police could look into peoples' email accounts to find pieces of evidence for a crime etc, this would have to be given permission obviously before they search their account.

yes you better watch out...
you two gays!

arrive alive GPS system

to be honest with this whole scheme.. its good to see where they are but it cannot stop them from speeding or crashing. its purely to see where they are... how can they see what they are doing in their car whether they are driving on the wrong side of the road etc.. the parents must trust their child with their driving because if they passed the test then they should be entitled to drive on the road becausr they have passed a national test! therefore it is up to them how they drive a gps system cannot so anything to stop them being themselves.!

Pro's and Con's of ID cards...

the ict proposal of the ID card scheme is needed is one big database full of everyones data. this would be good because all of the data on the base would be backed up etc so it won't be lost...
with the initial idea of these cards... where would we exactly use them? will we be the only country that uses them and would this be a disadvantage?
the main reason for an ID card would be the main deason as identification... but people have passports, provisionals and driving lisences.. i mean would there be any point in ANOTHER card to be put in the wallet? especially if you had to pay for it anyway.
however according tyo the home office: "ID cards will provide an easy and secure way for legal UK residents to prove who they are when they apply for services at private businesses, or for government benefits".
this is true against illegal immigrants that come in the country and work illegally. this is a good idea however if this happens then the government should take away certain identity cards because there will be too many... the drawbacks of the system would be fraud because at the moment there have been cases about identity theft and pin and chip theft... these systems are evry hard to crack but they have been tackled which is a big worry.
all it needs is someone to lose it and a russian gangstar can fraud these and sell them to polish and latvian imigrants for thousands of pounds.. it will slow down the rate of immigrants but it will not completly stop it.
i believe we should have these cards but other cards should be stopped.. because if the id card has all of the important information should eb on the ID card anyway...such as a driving permit etc...

information overload...

everyone in IT, serve in the so-called Information Age, need to develop skills for managing information overload. This condition results from having a rapid rate of growth in the amount of information available, while days remain 24 hours long and our brains remain in roughly the same state of development as they were when cavemen communicated by scrawling messages in stone. but nowadays it communications can change everyday day and people need to keep up with different types of software that can help them keep all of their information. such as spreadsheets, where all the information is kept on the same page.. it can be put under different headings etc.. this is easier than having one singal document for each, also the spreadsheet can be easily updated.
data minig tools can be used in emails: when an admin person gets 100 emails everyday andd they only want to read on specific email they would have to look through every single one... but with a mining tool they would only have to type in what they want and they wil find it.Filtering e-mail or using such techniques as color-coding information is one strategy.

making choices...

the mobile phones availible are endless but the recommended tariffs id suggest would be: O2, Vodafone and Orange. i shall visit these websites and find the best deals for the same mobile phone and compare them.
02: http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs
i found a pink Samsung G600. £35 per month, 600mins, 1000texts, Phone FREE.

Vodafone: http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/mobile-phones/pay-monthly/samsung/g600/
FREE
Phone £30
Per month 700 250 Best value offer save £90. Get £5 off per month when you buy online.

Orange: http://www.search.orange.com/en/?mot=samsung+g600
didnt have any results...

Carphone warehouse: http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/%22
there are a range of phones and deals but all on different tariffs...
i believe the samsung G600 would be a good choice for grandma because its easy to navigate.. its bright and they're relatively cheap. however it would be better getting a pay as you go.. but the phone would be quite expensive.. where as the contract would give her free texts, minutes at a fixed rate at the end of the month.
therefore the research i have done proves that different websites charge different amount for different deals. this means looking around would be the best idea.

Impact of games players

computer games are so popular because they are easily availible to children. this means they grow up around games and like to play on consoles because they are very appealing to them due to their age... also the graphics of the consoles make it better and make it more realistic.
computer games i believe do not make you more violent because it may put you in a mind set but it will not brainwash you and turn you into a maniac... games like GTA and MANHUNT have been in the media's eye for raising violence between children however they shouldnt be playing these games anyway because it strictly says only over 18's on the cover. its the same with alcohol, would you let your 12 year old have a drink of JD and coke? a pint of lager? i think the answer would be no... its the same principle, its the law.
nowadays computer games do not make people isolated because of things liek xbox live etc... call of duty allows you to interact with other players around the world and allow you to establish good communication skills etc.. this links with the next question about being social... i think it is being more social because you are mixing with different people with different backgrounds and different walks of life.

the use of mobile phones...

many people use their mobile phones for many reasons, they use it for work purposes, to be contacted by people and just in general if they are out and need it for emergency or whatever... there are many purposes for these. i use my mobile all of the time, texting and phoning people, playing music, watching videos. i sue my mobile phone all of the time... usually when im bored i'd text someone, or to arrange when im going out etc.. but sometime i do that on microsoft messenger.
the major benefits of suing my mobile phone my bill comes monthly so i can pay for it then when i get my wages rather than carrying coins to use pay phones. however the disadvantages are that sometime my phone runs out of battery... it can lose signal so then i cannot contact anyone.
my phone does fulfill its purposes by being able to recieve and send texts, and same with phone calls.

pirate entertainment

the advantages of using Apple's I-tunes are that you are paying for a good quality piece of music also you know the money is not being leaked out of the business. also they are the correct songs that you searched for because on other illegal download sites. also they are free from virus' unlike some 'dirty' downloads you may find in illegal download ports.

Buying dvd's from market stalls are not a good idea because they are not even worth 10 pence due to the type of quality etc... the money made from the priate Dvd's go into the terrorism trade and promotes it. the dvd's are not worth it, you may aswell go and rent the film from blockbuster or go to the cinema because the rates they charge are quite high for a film you're going to see for the forst 20 seconds.

when downloading the latest hollywood blockbuster, you must be mad!! because: the quality is rubbish, the sound is all fuzzy, you can hear people in the cinema, people get in the way and the filming is shocking! therefore it is a waste of time even trying to find it until the film actually comes out.

this is the same when visiting illicit music downloading sites because you can download things that are named the same but have to relevance to the title at all.. it may not even be the correct band...

I believe that illegal downloading does hinder peoples chances of making it to the big time as a music artist because when more and mor epeople enter illegal downlaoding no money is going to the artist and more people are scrapping cd's etc so hardly any money will be going into that.

Analysing the “good old days”

small business' can replace paper by using Microsoft Excell. this piece of software is excellent for people to use for various reasons because they can adapt excell to do anything they want. they can use excell to their advantage because it is easy and simple to use and it keeps all of the data they want to put on the spreadsheet.
another piece of softweare that could be used would be: microsoft access. this application is similar to EXCELL but layed out differently. however microsoft word is not an ideal piece of software to use because of it not allowing calculations tgherefore it is not great for a compnay dealing with prices etc.

both of these pieces of software have many advantages but some disadvantages... the advantages are: keeps all of the information togther, it can create equations to add and sub-tract numbers which means that projected sales etc can be worked out easier.. also the information can be updated easily than having to keep swapping and changing sheets of paper etc. also information can be lost however it is backed up by the PC. with the use of these peices of software items can be changed and updated easier than it would be on a piece of paper... also items can be emailed to other buyers.. and people in the company. the software can detect errors that are processed in the software. also using a computer is easier and quicker.
the use of a spread sheet over a data base would be that all the information is updated regularly and it is kept together with its simple layout.

the secretaries are affected because they wouldnt know how to work these spreadsheets fluently therefore it would take more time but it would be better in the long run because they would know how to use better software.
new jobs could have been marketing sales, finance conultants etc. these jobs are needed in everyday life because more jobs use ICT.

Tool man ***new***

John is living in the 'dark age' by not using IT technology... however his business can be boosted by the use of technological 'gadgets'.
firstly instead of John travelling all the time he may well set up a website to sell his tools.. then this can broaden his client range and everyone can see his stock... this means he doesnt have to be on the road everyday because he can control it from his own home. Also when travelling he may need a laptop which can be plugged into the elctrical supply in his vehicle and he could replace all of the A-Z's with satelite navigational system (sat nav)which will be more accurate and less time consuming. with using laptop he can keep his stock levels and admnistration up to date as he goes then he will not have to use more time on a friday. also with this he can show clients again on his own website the merchandise he has instead of the catalogue.. also his mobile phone and laptop will have a calculator on them which replaces the calculator.
these are the ways his business will be boosted by technology.
however he will need maybe a usb memory stick to keep things.. details and such on them because if he gets a problem with his laptop he will need a back up... this means he may still have to carry around his catalogue etc.. but it minimises space in the car therefore he will be saving money on petrol because of the excess weight out of the vehicle...

Downloading services ***NEW***

At home downloading is the easiest and cheapest way to view or listen to the media that you want... you can download from places like: limewire, I-tunes and many media download centres on the internet.
there are so many download sites that my family use for entertainment etc.
however some sites like limewire and pirate bay are illegal because you are downloading illegal files that have not been legalised or had the rights to be put on the site by the pulisher... therefore legal action could be made for downloading it.
I-tunes is a website and a music torrent where you can pay for songs and have your own I-tunes libary that only you can access... you can pay for songs, albums and videos and these go into the libary.
however there are many illegal downloading sites all aroudn the world where people upload the latest tv shows or songs or even albums that havent had the rights brought... therefore people are being part of the black-market of downloads.. haha.
but yes it is an easier way of getting stuff instead of going to the shops.. but you can still order items off of places such as HMV, amazon and zavvi...
